1.       Who are you?

We are a group of parents who are interested in having a Chinese immersion program adding to Portland public schools on the west side of Portland.

2.       Why are you asking the ages for our children?

To show that we have support from parents with children in all school ages.

3.       Are my information kept confidential with you?

Yes, we will not disclose your info with any other party. It is only used for the purpose of this petition.

   4.         Can children in Beaverton school district apply for the existing or future Chinese immersion programs offered at Portland public schools? If they can, is their chance of acceptance lower than the kids from the Portland school district?

Yes, they can apply, but in-district families will have priority over out of district families. Also Beaverton and Portland do not have a reciprocal relationship in terms of state dollars tied to each student so families accepted from the Beaverton district would have to pay tuition (between $5000 to $6000 per year) to compensate for the lack of dollars coming from the state.

5.       Can people with Portland address yet belong to Beaverton school district help support our petition?

Yes, especially if they express an intention to transfer or move into the Portland Public School district if such an immersion program is added.

6.       Can the money granted by Department of State be used to fund an immersion program in Beaverton schools?

No, the money cannot be used to fund an immersion program in Beaverton.
